Watercolor Pet Portraits

I started getting into watercolor painting a few years ago. I wanted reference photos to practice with, so I thought what could be better than doing pet portraits for real people!

It was quite a struggle at first, coming from an acrylic, or opaque painting background. But after a lot of practice I started to get the hang of it, and now I love working in the medium!

I start my watercolor paintings with a pencil drawing, then color it in with the paints. Sometimes I also go over the finished painting with black ink lines, to help it stand out more. Color splashes to the background or a shadow underneath the animal give it a finishing touch!

If you’re interested in having a custom painting of your own pet done, feel free to contact me! Also, some of these paintings are available for sale as prints!
